You already know the websites you open every day: the news you actually read, the forums you lurk in, the store you keep a wishlist on, the AI chat you ask things, the video site with the clip nobody uploaded anywhere else. On your phone each of those has a bookmark. On your TV? Usually nothing — or a "smart" app that is a stripped-down shadow of it.
web2tv closes that gap the direct way: it puts the real website on the big screen, full-size, and makes it drivable with the remote you are already holding.
The problem with TV apps
Streaming apps are excellent at streamable catalogues. They are much worse at everything else. Every service wants its own app, its own account, its own search box and its own keyboard. What you get is a shelf of icons where half of them show a subset of what the website shows — and the thing you wanted is on the website.
A browser solves that by inverting it: one app, every site. That has always been the promise of the web. It just never arrived on the couch, because a site built for a mouse is hostile to a D-pad.
What "TV-ready" actually changes
- A focus ring that follows the remote. Arrow keys walk the page; OK activates what is under the ring. No mouse, no cursor hunting.
- Scrolling that respects you. The page scrolls where it should — reading areas, grids, rails — instead of snapping back to the top.
- Per-site compatibility fixes. Known sites get a small script that opens hover menus, hides cookie walls from the D-pad, and stops ad containers from stealing focus.
- Fullscreen video. Press play and the video fills the panel, with the remote's play/pause and seek keys doing what you expect.
Your sites, in one place
Type an address once and it is saved as a tile on the home screen, right next to the recents row. News, forums, social feeds, shopping, documentation, web-only video, AI chats — they all live side by side instead of scattered across six different launcher rows. If a site has a published fix it is applied when you open it; if it does not, it still loads, and you simply scroll more.
Getting on the big screen
- Install the web2tv APK on your Android TV, Google TV or Fire TV device — it is a direct download, no store approval involved.
- Enter any address with the on-screen keyboard (or start from the supported list).
- Add the sites you use often to your favorites and forget the keyboard exists.
That is the whole idea. Not another walled garden on your TV — the web, on your TV, with a remote that finally works.
